Notice of change - Enhancement to increase timeout period (v1 payments only)

Issued: 13th March 2023 | TB-022423

Updated: 10th August 2023

Updated: 22nd February 2024

What's changing?

Token.io is extending the timeout period for transfers from 15 minutes to 30 minutes. For the first 15 minutes after redirecting the user to the bank, Token.io will poll the user’s bank for a result every 90 seconds. For the period between 15 minutes and 30 minutes, Token.io will poll the user’s bank every 5 minutes.

What problem will this solve?

Presently Token.io expects the bank to provide a status update within 15 minutes after the user has been redirected to the bank. If Token.io does not receive a response from the bank, Token.io sets the status of the token-request to EXPIRED. However, Token.io has observed that certain banks are providing a response within 30 minutes.

Who's affected by this change?

All banks using Token.io’s Payment Initiation Service (PIS) will be affected.

What action do I need to take?

The action you need to take will depend on how you are currently handling the 15 minute timeout limit. If you are timing out your session with Token.io at 15 minutes, you will need to extend it to 30 minutes, to avoid mismatched transactions.

You should check for Backward Compatability to ensure that this will have no impact on your transfers.

When will this change be applied to all impacted customers?

Token.io will apply this change for all customers on June 15th 2023.
